Another hiker rescued from the cliffs above Peterson Creek

KAMLOOPS —You’d think perhaps, like distracted driving, people would get the message about climbing in Peterson Creek.

For the second time in a week, a hiker got stranded east of the waterfalls up the slopes of the creek and had to be rescued by firefighters.

KFR’s Jim Gorman says they got the call about 5:30 last night, and the call took them to virtually the same area where a hiker got stranded last Saturday. 

The area is steep, and once hikers climb up, they find the rocks slippery and crumbly, and find it difficult to get back down.

Crews last night had to drop a firefighter down to the stranded hiker, put him in a harness and lower him to the ground below.

It’s not known if the city can do anything to prevent people climbing in that area, but there are a number of calls to that area each year, and it’s not only dangerous for the hikers, but for rescue crews as well, who put themselves in danger having to drop down the steep face of the cliffs.
