NORTH VANCOUVER —   First responders in North Vancouver will make another effort today to recover the body of a kayaker swept away in the Capilano river yesterday afternoon.

Rescuers raced to the swollen river after receiving reports of a kayaker in trouble but the victim could not be saved.

The body was spotted along the riverbank last night but because of the darkness and the danger from the raging waters, a decision was made to retrieve it today, during daylight.

The River Forecast Centre says high streamflow advisories remain in effect for the south and central coasts, while a flood warning is posted for southern Vancouver Island and a flood watch covers the eastern part of the Island following recent torrential downpours.
