KAMLOOPS — Interested in a career fighting fires?

If yes, the Williams Lake Fire Department would like to hear from you.

"We want to hire some new members, we're down a few this year," says Assistant Fire Chief Rob Warnock. "So, we will be having an open house on February 7 at 7 p.m. at the Williams Lake Fire Hall. We encourage people to attend, it will just give you an overview of what we do and what we'll expect from you as firefighters."

He says they plan to hire six to eight members for paid on-call duty and notes it's not for everyone.

"We're looking for someone who is established in the community. And by that I mean someone who has a job," Warnock says. "You need to talk to your spouse - male or female - because it takes up a lot of time. You do miss birthdays, we're sometimes called out on holidays like Christmas."

Applications close on February 16 at 4:30 p.m. For more information call the Fire Department at 250-392-4321.
