VICTORIA —   The city of Surrey remains the fastest-growing school district in the province with an additional 959 more students enrolled this year over last year.

The Education Ministry says nearly 5-thousand more students were enrolled in schools throughout the province this year.

Langley, Comox Valley, Sooke and Nanaimo-Ladysmith school districts also saw hundreds more students enrolled in September.

There were about 300 more students this year in Kamloops-Thompson School District 73.

The province says it's spent 409 million on new teachers and other classroom needs for this school year -- up 54 million dollars from what was initially promised in June.
