Structure fire claims a life in Barriere

KAMLOOPS — A structure fire claimed the life of a senior citizen in Barriere Thursday afternoon.

According to local newspaper the NorthThompson Star/Journal, the Barriere Volunteer Fire Department attended the scene but by the time they knocked down the flames the woman had succumbed to her injuries. Reports say she was unable to get out of the residence.  Smoke and flames were billowing out of the residence when fire crews arrived. The story says firefighters were able to knock the flames down fairly quickly, but unfortunately the woman was found unresponsive inside the structure. 

The home is located in the Sunset Heights Mobile Home Park.

The victim's name has not been released.
