Blazers drop home opener to Rockets

KAMLOOPS — The Rockets broke open a 1-1 game with four goals in the third period to take the second game of a home-and-home 5-1 in Kamloops on Saturday night.

The Rockets scored the game’s first goal as Kole Lind’s sharp-angle shot squeaked by goaltender Dylan Ferguson in the first period.

The Blazers tied the game up late in the second period. Erik Miller made a good play in the neutral zone and Joe Gatenby scored his first goal of the season.

Jack Cowell scored the game-winning goal 1:41 into the third period as a power play expired. Cowell then added his second of the game on a power play.

Kole Lind and Cal Foote added late goals to make it a 5-1 final.

The Rockets outshot the Blazers 32-29. Brodan Salmond had the win for the Rockets with 28 saves, while Dylan Ferguson stopped 27 shots.

The Rockets were 2-for-7 on the power play, while the Blazers finished 0-for-3.
