Political expert says expect more bold NDP announcements

KAMLOOPS — The NDP government’s decision to remove the tolls on the Port Mann Bridge and most recently offer free tuition to young people in foster care isn’t a surprise for some political experts.

“It’s pretty much as promised,” said retired Political Studies Instructor Ray Pillar  “They campaigned on the promise they were going to expand all sorts of spending. With the support of the Greens to keep them in power who promised to spend four times as much, it should come as no surprise to anybody that these things are coming.”

Pillar chalks the announcements up to gaining more support from the public.

“We’ve got to expect they’re going to do things like this to keep them in government for another year or more,” said Pillar. “They will be looking for a four-year mandate at least, so you can expect they’ll be doling out goodies galorie and goodies cost money.”
