Clinton evacuated as Elephant Hill fire continues to grow

UPDATE:  The Cariboo Regional District has issued an expanded evacuation order for the Kluskus, Blackwater and Clisbako area which is about 100 kilometres west of Quesnel. 

EARLIER:

CLINTON, B.C. — Evacuation orders were issued late Saturday evening for the Village of Clinton, as well as a number of properties north and south of the village, as the Elephant Hill wildfire continues to move closer to the community.

The order took effect at 8:00pm. Evacuees are directed to come to Kamloops. Around 1,000 evacuees from Clinton and the surrounding area are expected to report to the Sandman Centre tonight.
