Wildfire ravages Lake Country, destroying homes

LAKE COUNTRY, B.C. — A wildfire that broke out late Saturday afternoon in Lake Country, on the east side of Okanagan Lake, has already devastated the community.

Though its last size was listed at 30 hectares by the BC Wildfire Service, it is burning in a rural residential area.

Global News has video of homes burning around Tyndall Road and Nighthawk Road.

About 300 homes have been evacuated.

Witnesses tell Global News numerous residents who fled the fire went into shock and had to be treated by paramedics. Some were treated for smoke inhalation.
