WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — The City of Williams Lake has issued an Evacuation Alert.

The alert was issued to warn residents that they could be ordered to leave if conditions change.

Geoff Paynton, Acting Information Officer for the City of Williams Lake stated, "An evacuation alert does NOT mean you have to evacuate; rather, you should be prepared to evacuate with very short notice."

The alert is in response to a potential change in weather forecast for Wednesday.

Williams Lake has a population of 10,753, according to the 2016 Census.

City of Williams Lake Mayor Walt Cobb stated, “We want to ensure that residents have sufficient time to be prepared in case the weather takes a turn for the worse. Please make sure you’ve taken appropriate steps should an evacuation be necessary. If you require assistance, please reach out and do so now.”
