KAMLOOPS — While Kamloops air quality has improved, other areas of the province remain extreme.

Trevor Smith, Meteoroloist with Environment Canada, says most areas in the Cariboo region are sitting at well beyond the maximum 10 mark on the scale, with Williams Lake measuring approximetly 17.

In Kamloops the air quality index has been reduced to 3 which is classified as a low health risk.

However he says Kamloops is far from in the clear.

"Depending on the fire behaviour, particularly the one near Ashcroft and the wind direction, thinfs could change and potentially get worse," said Smith. "I wouldn't say we're out of the woods for smoke concentrations for at least the next few days."
