KAMLOOPS — Students across the Kamloops/Thompson School District packed up their books and kicked off their summer vacations today (June 29).

Many Kamloops schools held farewell assemblies this morning before students were dismissed for the summer.

At Beattie Elementary, students displayed their talents and received recognition for their accomplishments throughout the school year.

“We had our Grade 7 leaving ceremony yesterday,” Principal Blair Lloyd said. “There were some tears there. We have a wonderful Grade 7 group that started at Stuart Wood and moved up with us to Beattie, and they’ve been our leaders all year long. Today is a celebration for the rest of the school, K-7. It’s been a fantastic year, it’s been a busy year, but it went really quickly that’s for sure.”

While students were looking forward to summer vacation, there were also those with mixed feelings about leaving school and their friends behind.
