KAMLOOPS — New Life Community Kamloops is asking for supplies to help the homeless beat the heat.

Executive Director Stan Dueck says most homeless people wear heavy clothing year round as night temperatures can still be cool throughout the summer.

He says the centre is currently accepting donations for summerwear clothing including lightweight tshirts and shorts.

Then, there's the summer staples.

"There's stuff like bug spray, suntan lotion, chapstick, and water," said Dueck. "A lot of those things aren't  really accesible for a lot of these people.  We try to keep them on hand as much as possible but it's difficult."

Dueck says the centre is now open 8am to 8pm to allow more people to escape the heat and stay hydrated.
