Williams Lake hosts first United Nations discussion in the Interior

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. —  It’s being called a historic event.

In a press release, The United Nations Working Group on Business and Human Rights announced it’s holding a discussion meeting at TRU’s Williams Lake campus on Sunday.

It’s the first time a UN Working Group has held a session in a small Interior community.

Amnesty International, along with  Professor Nicole Schabus, Chair of the TRUFA Human Rights Committee, are the organizers of the session.

The main focus will be the impacts of the Mount Polley disaster, resource development in rural BC, and regulatory and governance issues related to extractives industries.
