Paul Creek breaches banks flooding nearby streets

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Drivers are being warned to avoid Salish Road and surrounding streets due to heavy flooding.

According to Monica Parker, Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc Communications and Events Coordinator, Paul Creek breached its banks Saturday night due to heavy rainfall.

Parker says around 30 Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc members and the greater community have spent the last three days sandbagging properties along Paul Creek. 

So far, they’ve saved around half a dozen properties from flooding with efforts continuing Sunday.

“The community has been coming out and volunteering so much,” said Parker. “It’s proven to be fairly successful so far. Today we’re focusing on protecting one particular resident’s home.”

Salish Road remains closed off to traffic.

Parker says water levels at Paul Lake Road and Chief Louis Way will continue to be monitored.
