KAMLOOPS — The former chief of the Barriere fire department has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges.

The charges against Al Kirkwood stem from incidents last July and October.

Kirkwood resigned from the position last October, as well as his position as publisher of the North Thompson Star Journal and the Clearwater Times.

RCMP searched Kirkwood's home and his office at the fire hall as part of its investigation.

In provincial court today, an appearance date was set for July 24, to hear the results of a psychiatric assessment before sentencing is considered.
