KAMLOOPS — A Manitoba company says it has officially opened its rail terminal on Mission Flats Road.

Cando Rail Services announced its purchase of the former Weyerhaeuser sawmill property on Mission Flats Road in January of 2016.

The terminal is touted to employ between 20 and 50 people once it is fully operational.

Today, Cando says Phase One of the project is officially complete, which involved laying track that will be used primarily for storage of empty railcars.

CEO Brian Cornick says future phases will accommodate transloading, railcar repair, and track and engineering services.

Cornick adds the company is planning to expand further into BC, and the Kamloops terminal will serve as its base of operations in the province.
