KAMLOOPS — Police say a local motel was robbed Monday and a suspect is on the loose after evading a police search.

About 10:15 PM Monday night, a man entered the Howard Johnson Inn on West Columbia Street and pointed what appeared to be a gun at the clerk behind the desk.

The suspect went to the cash drawer and took some money. At the same time, he ordered the clerk into a back room.

The man then left. The clerk wasn't injured in the incident.

Police brought in the dog unit but didn't find the robber after searching the area..

RCMP Corporal Jodi Shelkie says the man was wearing a balaclava, a black hoodie, black Adidas track pants with white stripes down the leg, and was carrying a greyish-black backpack.

Anyone with information is asked to call the RCMP or Crimestoppers.
