KAMLOOPS — A scare for residents of a North Shore dwelling on Wednesday afternoon after a fire broke out around 3 p.m. on the side of 421 Tranquille Road.

Kamloop Fire Rescue says there was a gas can found near the air conditioning unit, where the fire started.

"Basically we were sitting inside our house and smelled a little bit of gas coming through our heater vent," said one resident at 421 Tranquille. "When we came outside, we saw smoke from the side of the house, and next thing you know we found that someone may have caused it."

KFR is working with RCMP to determine whether the fire is suspicious.

"There's no reason for the gas can to be there, so we'll investigate and determine how it could've possible got there," said KFR Assistant Chief Dave McMahon.

Kamloops Fire Rescue says the damage was contained to the outside, and the tenants are now able to return to their home.
