LILLOOET, B.C. — Highway 99 north of Lillooet has reopened to single lane traffic today, about a week after it was closed.

BC Ministry of Transportation officials closed the route when they noticed that the historic 10 Mile Slide area beneath the road had become more active than usual.

Minister Todd Stone says initial reports from this morning show the temporary fix appears to be working, but a long term solution is what’s needed.

“[I’m] pleased that we have managed to get the road open in the short term, and to do so safely. What is really required is a durable long term fix, and we are working on a number of options with the Xaxli’p First Nation and the folks in and around Lillooet to make that happen as soon as possible,” explained Stone.
