KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP have a suspect in custody after a break-and-enter at a Sahali business overnight.

According to Cpl. Jodi Shelkie, officers rushed to the Shoppers Drug Mart on Summit Drive at about 1:00 a.m., responding to an alarm.

Investigators found a brick had been thrown through a pane of glass, and the culprit had stolen merchandise from the store.

A short time later, officers responded to a hit-and-run report on the Trans Canada Highway near the Hillside Drive exit.

Witnesses say the driver of a pickup truck had hit a semi truck before colliding with a cement traffic barrier and speeding away.

Police tracked the vehicle to a location in Aberdeen, and found the driver in a nearby home.

Investigators recovered evidence that tied the man to the break-in as well as the hit-and-run.

The suspect is facing a series of charges.

Shelkie says he is from Kelowna and is previously known to police.
