VERNON, B.C. — Donations keep pouring in for the Okanagan Rail Trail.

In the first 10 days of this month, over $450,000 was raised, bringing the total now to close to $700,000.

The goal is $7.8 million for the 48 kilometre trail on the former rail line between Coldstream and Kelowna.

Trail ambassador Brad Clements is ecstatic.

"Oh fantastic you know. We kicked it all off with an anonymous donor wanting to do that Canada Day matching and that just turned out greater than the donor expected and we expected."

The total now is equal to 4.4 kilometres of trail.

It should be enough for design work and access control to begin.
