KAMLOOPS — The Thompson-Nicola Film Commission has confirmed what was until now only a rumour: a new Power Rangers movie will use Kamloops as its backdrop next month.

The production anticipates filming in and around Kamloops for about 10 days.

Filming began in Vancouver last month, and Kamloops will act as a stand-in for the fictional town of Angel Grove.

Power Rangers stars Elizabeth Banks as the heroes' arch-nemesis Rita Repulsa.

The movie is expected to be released on March 24, 2017.
