Kamloops Blazers win 8th straight – clinch 3rd place in the BC Division

KAMLOOPS — The Blazers scored two power play goals in the second period and led the rest of the way in a 4-1 home ice win over the Prince George Cougars.

The win was the Blazers eight straight and also helped the hockey club clinch 3rd place in the B.C. Division to set up a first round WHL playoff match-up with the Kelowna Rockets. To view the schedule of the first round series, click here. 

Gage Quinney opened the scoring for the Blazers with a five-on-three power play goal in the second period. He ripped a shot past goaltender Ty Edmonds for a 1-0 Blazers lead. 

Matt Revel scored 1:08 later on a power play on a nice feed from Jake Kryski as the Blazers held a 2-0 lead with 6:52 to play in the second period. 

Jansen Harkins tallied with 1:08 to play in the second period on a four-on-three power play. He one-timed a shot past goaltender Connor Ingram. The Blazers took a 2-1 lead into the final period. 

Collin Shirley scored the insurance marker on a terrific passing play midway through the third period. Deven Sideroff slid a puck to Garrett Pilon and he one-touched it to Shirley for an open net and a 3-1 lead. 

Shirley scored his 37th goal of the season into an empty net to help the Blazers to a 4-1 win. 

The Blazers finished 2-for-6 on the power play, while the Cougars were 1-for-3. Final shots on goal were 37-36 in favour of the Blazers. 

These two teams will close out the regular season Saturday night in Prince George.
