“In working with the City of Kamloops, this was the best alternative with the Sandman Centre unavailable,” commented General Manager, Stu MacGregor. “We worked for a resolution with Hockey Canada and the City of Kamloops to play at the Sandman Centre, but the schedule couldn’t be altered due to the IIHF Women’s World Championships.”

The last time a WHL playoff game was held at Memorial Arena was on May 5, 1992. The Blazers beat the Saskatoon Blades in Game 7 of the WHL Championship 8-0. The Blazers went on to win the 1992 Memorial Cup in Seattle.

“This is a unique opportunity to turn back the clock, and hold a playoff game at a historic building in Kamloops,” MacGregor said. “The hockey club, along with the City of Kamloops, are working behind the scenes to ensure that this is the very best experience for our fans and community. This situation is the best option to ensure we accommodate our fans attending our playoff games in Kamloops. We look forward to a ‘family oriented, packed house’ at Memorial Arena.”

All future playoff home games will be played at the Sandman Centre.

“We’d like to thank the City of Kamloops and the WHL for their efforts. They have been tremendous partners in ensuring this game can be played in Kamloops,” said MacGregor.

Season ticket holders will have the option to either use their existing ticket for the game, or can also redeem their ticket for a credit to their account at the Blazers Box Office, if they are unable to attend. This will be a general admission event as seats will be on a first come, first serve basis due to the arena having no numbered seating. The deadline to redeem your ticket for a credit will be on Monday, March 28th at 5:00pm.

“We realize the inconvenience to our season ticket holders, sponsors and fans,” commented MacGregor “However the energy and nostalgia of Memorial Arena will provide an exciting atmosphere for everyone.”

Single game playoff tickets will go on sale on Monday, March 21st at 9:00am. This will include a limited number of tickets available for Game 3 at Memorial Arena on Tuesday, March 29th. Tickets to Game 3 will only be available for purchase at the Blazers Box Office or by phone at 250-828-3339.
