SICAMOUS, B.C. — A search for a missing snowmobiler near Sicamous has ended in tragedy.

RCMP and Shuswap Search and Rescue were notified early this morning that a 34 year old man had not returned from a solo snowmobile outing in the area of Morton Peak, just southeast of Sicamous.

An air search this morning found a fresh avalanche in the area, as well as a single snowmobile track.

With the aerial search grounded due to weather conditions, RCMP pinged the snowmobiler's GPS device, and just as ground searchers were about to turn back, they located the man's body.

His identity has not been released, and police say the BC Coroners Service has joined the investigation.
