Kamloops residents: get ready to Boogie!

KAMLOOPS — After what seems like an eternity, winter is all but over in the Southern Interior. The snow has melted, and spring-like weather has returned. With spring comes the desire to get outside and be active. One of the best ways to do that is to sign up for the 18th annual CFJC-TV Boogie the Bridge, set to take place April 24th.

Since 1998, Boogie the Bridge has been the unofficial kickoff to spring in Kamloops, and if you want to participate in this year’s run, now is the time to start preparing. According to Boogie the Bridge coordinator, Jo Berry: “The best thing to do is to have the courage to set that goal… Be it a 5K , be it a 10K, be it a walk – we love walkers – just start to gather your friends, and family and get outside. It’s gorgeous.”

Okay, so you’ve set that goal. Now it’s time to equip to yourself for the run. The good news? All you need is a good pair of shoes. “Picking a good running shoe is the only piece of equipment you need to run,” says Berry.

Wayne Richardson has been putting Kamloops in shoes for 14 years, and has partnered with Boogie for a decade. He says fit should be the most important factor when buying a shoe to train in. “The most important [thing] is getting a show you’re going to be comfortable in,” Richardson advises, “if it looks good, that’s great, too.”

Wayne and his staff provide support and and resources throughout the lead-up to Boogie the Bridge. It’s a way for the business owner to give something back to the community.

The first of the Boogie Run Clinics is this Sunday morning. Jo says it’s a great way to train, and get motivated for the event, which is just over 7 weeks away.
