Guilty plea expected in shooting of Kamloops RCMP officer

KAMLOOPS —Kenneth Knutson, the man accused of shooting Corporal J.R. Michaud shooting Corporal J.R. Michaud in December 2014 intends to enter a guilty plea. 

An agent acting on behalf of Knutson’s lawyer made the surprise revelation in BC Supreme Court on Monday January 18, 2016.

The accused faces five counts, including Attempted Murder.

Kamloops RCMP Corporal J.R. Michaud was conducting a traffic stop when he was shot.

Knutson was arrested after an intense manhunt that lasted more than 12 hours.

Michaud underwent multiple surgeries and spent months in hospital recovering.

Knutson is scheduled to be in court again on March 17, 2016.

Knutson is a convicted killer with a lengthy criminal history and has ties to Lower Mainland drug gangs.
