Overlanders Bridge now open to 4 lanes

After six months of reconstruction, and rain delays that threatened to postpone the projected opening date, the Overlanders Bridge has re-opened to four lanes of traffic. All four lanes were open to traffic starting Saturday afternoon, and more importantly for Monday morning’s commute.

Most of the reconstruction is complete, though traffic lanes have yet to be painted and pylons remain in place. This week, the painting will be done at night as will the installation of seals on the bridge joints

No group is more happy with the bridge re-opening than businesses in the Tranquille Corridor, which at times looked like a ghost town over the past six months. The reconstruction resulted in financial losses for many businesses, with fewer people travelling to the North Shore. Some merchants even closed shop and moved elsewhere. But there is some newfound optimism things will get back to normal soon.
