KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers have gone to Czechia again to fill out their second import slot.

The Blazers selected forward Vit Zahejsky with the second overall pick in the 2024 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Import Draft.

The 16-year-old forward is coming off a season with HC Energie Karlovy Vary U20 in Czechia where he scored 39 points (19 goals and 20 assists) in 42 games. He added seven points (two goals and five assists) in seven U20 playoff games and suited up in two professional games with HC Energie Karlovy Vary.

Internationally, Zahejsky scored four points (one goal and three assists) in eight games with Czechia at the U-17 World Hockey Challenge.

The CHL Import Draft is an annual event where every team in the Western, Ontario and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League may select the rights to eligible import players. An import player is someone who doesn’t have residency status in Canada or the United States.

The Blazers passed on their second round CHL Import Draft pick (62nd overall) as 2005-born Czech defenceman Matteo Koci is expected to return to Kamloops in 2024-25.

The Blazers’ home and season opener at Sandman Centre is Friday, Sept. 20 against the Portland Winterhawks.
