At least 20 Savona properties impacted by flash flood; TNRD activates emergency operations centre

KAMLOOPS — At least 20 properties in Savona have been impacted following the flash flooding that hit the community Sunday (June 30) night.

In response, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) activated its emergency operations centre (EOC). Residents whose properties have been impacted are asked to contact the TNRD EOC at (250) 377-7188.

In a post to social media Monday, the TNRD says there have been no injuries.

Elsewhere, Interior Health states that residents in Savona have reported sewage smells following the flash flood. The health authority says it’s in contact with the TNRD during clean-up. A guideline on what to do when waters are contaminated can be viewed here.

The Trans Canada Highway remains open through Savona although a “speed reduction” for road crews is still in effect. Another update is due at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.
