Banská Bystrica, Slovakia — Ethan Katzberg of the Kamloops Track and Field Club is the favourite to win gold in men’s hammer throw at the 2024 Olympic Summer Games in Paris.

He continued his dominance of the international circuit on Friday (May 25), throwing 79.66 metres to win gold at the P-T-S meet in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia.

Volodymyr Myslyvcuk of Czechia placed second, but his mark (75.97m) was nearly four metres shy of Katzberg’s first-place heave.

The reigning world champion Katzberg won gold at the Trond Mohn Games on Wednesday (May 22) in Bergen, Norway, with a stadium-record throw of 81.98 metres.

Bence Halasz of Hungary launched the implement 75.81m to place second.

Katzberg won gold at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial last weekend in Chorzów, Poland.

He threw 79.12m to finish nearly two metres ahead of second-place finisher Pawel Fajdek (77.23m) of Poland.

Katzberg dismantled his own Canadian record and posted the ninth-longest heave in the history of men’s hammer throw last month at an event in Kenya, with a throw of 84.38m.

The 2024 Olympics are slated to run from July 26 to Aug. 11 in Paris.
