Angove of Kamloops fares well at Olympic swimming trials

TORONTO — Four Kamloops Classic Swimming graduates were in action at the Swimming Canada Olympic and Paralympic Trials, which wrapped up on Sunday (May 19) at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre.

Sienna Angove placed sixth in the women’s 100-metre freestyle, with a time of 54.89 seconds.

Seven-time Olympic medallist Penny Oleksiak (53.66) earned gold.

Angove’s time in the event was the fastest among junior-age women at the trials.

She also placed fourth in the women’s 800m, with a time of 8:43.07, good enough for third place in the junior division.

Stephen Calkins placed fifth in the men’s 50m freestyle, clocking in at 22.55 seconds; Diego Paz finished 13th in the men’s 800m freestyle, with a time of 8:21.68; and Parker Cameron was 12th in the men’s 200m backstroke, with a time of 2:05.85.
