KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP would like you to meet the detachment’s newest four-legged officer.
Cst. Crystal Evelyn says Mako, a two-year-old German shepherd, began at the detachment last month after graduating from the RCMP Police Dog Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta.
Mako’s detection specialty is explosives, but he is also trained to “track people, find evidence at crime scenes, hidden firearms and assist in making arrests,” noted handler Cst. Dan Cloutier.
While he was born at the Innisfail dog training facility, he was raised in Prince George.
