KAMLOOPS – A pickup truck went up in flames along the Trans-Canada highway west of Kamloops Monday evening.

The driver of the pickup was travelling east when he described smelling an electrical fire. He found a pullout on the north side of the highway and stopped.

A moment later he could only watch as flames engulfed his truck and the boat he was carrying in the truck box.

Flames spread from the truck to the nearby grass however, the area was predominately gravel and the fire failed to take hold in the grass.

Members of the Tobiano Volunteer Fire Department were activated and doused the flames while BC Wildfire Service planes circled overhead watching closely.

While the fire completely destroyed the truck and boat, no one was injured. The incident began around 5:30 p.m. and was over within an hour. Traffic slowed in the area the highway remained open.
