Who’s The Entertainer of the Year?

Lizzo has just been named Entertainer of the Year by Time magazine. The magazine stated that the 31-year-old singer represents “something new,” adding, “Her sound is relentlessly positive and impossibly catchy . . . In 2019, Lizzo was a beam of light shining through doom and gloom, telling us to love ourselves even if the world doesn’t always love us back. We needed her.”

Lizzo told the magazine, “I’ve been doing positive music for a long-ass time. Then the culture changed. There were a lot of things that weren’t popular but existed, like body positivity, which at first was a form of protest for fat bodies and black women and has now become a trendy, commercialized thing . . . Suddenly I’m mainstream!”

She added, “Being a black woman is popping, but like right now in mainstream culture, we’re finally getting a little bit more respect and getting our due.”

Lizzo recently nabbed eight first-time Grammy nominations — the most of any artist at the upcoming 2020 Grammys — including Record and Song of the Year for “Truth Hurts” and Album of the Year for Cuz I Love You.

  • Lizzo lived up to her Entertainer of the Year label when her mic and sound system kept cutting out on her at a big radio festival that she was headlining Tuesday night (December 10th) in Indianapolis.
  • Her wireless mic went dead halfway through the second number, but she didn’t notice and finished the song anyway. While the crew worked to get the sound up and running again, she kept the audience engaged with twerking and chatting — until the situation was finally sorted out and she was able to get the show going again with “Juice” and “Truth Hurts.”
