No injuries after massive truck fire on Highway 1 west of Revelstoke

REVELSTOKE, B.C. — Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a truck fire that shut down Highway 1 Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 24).

In a news release, Revelstoke RCMP say they responded to a semi-tractor trailer on fire at roughly 5:00 p.m. Tuesday.

No one was injured and the cause has yet to be determined, police say, but the driver did indicate that they saw fire coming from the rear passenger tires while travelling westbound and applying brakes.

The load consisted of mechanical parts on wooden pallets, and rainfall helped extinguish the fire.

Highway 1 west of Revelstoke was closed for half an hour yesterday before it reopened to alternating traffic. The highway is now fully open in both directions.
