KAMLOOPS — A local non-profit is preparing to serve hundreds of the city’s most vulnerable with a community meal Saturday.

The Love Hard Kamloops Society is hosting an event called For the Love of Food between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Odd Fellows and Rebakahs Hall on Tranquille Road.

A similar event was hosted by the group in March and brought in around 200 people in need of a hot meal.

“I think we got mostly inspired last March when the shelters all shut down and all the people went into the street and they were hungry,” said Love Hard Director Lynne Borlé. “We started with a sandwich club, where we make sandwiches and deliver fruit and sandwiches and cookies, juice, anything we can get out hands on.”

The group has also been busy creating care packages with donated food and hygiene items.

Food for the meal itself has been donated by businesses and community organizations and Love Hard is hoping to feed as many hungry people as possible.

“We went and ran around with flyers to all the different agencies around here and downtown and just asked them to send people our way for tomorrow,” said Love Hard Director Charlene Cash. “We had about 230 last time, so we’re hoping about that much, if not more.”
