KAMLOOPS – A local company will have to pay more than $7,000 after WorkSafeBC spotted some risky behaviours on site.

In August, a $7,019-penalty was imposed on Integral Exteriors, a Kamloops-based contracting company. A penalty summary by WorkSafeBC details one worker who was seen installing cement board siding on a two-storey home.

The employee was working from an unguarded balcony and then from a trestle ladder on the balcony that positioned the worker above the handrail, the summary states. The worker wasn’t using any fall protection and could have risked falling up to more than five metres.

According to the summary, WorkSafeBC also determined there were no procedures in place to check on the well-being of the employee, who was working alone.
