Assisted living facility in Merritt evacuated due to flooding concerns
MERRITT, B.C. — The flooding situation has gone from bad to worse in Merritt.
According to Mayor Neil Menard, the Nicola River has breached a berm on Garcia street, prompting the evacuation of Nicola Meadows.
Residents of the assisted living complex were evacuated early this morning and are being looked after by Emergency Social Services.
The city has declared a state of local emergency to grant city workers access to areas of concern.
