KAMLOOPS — Premier John Horgan broke out a shovel Thursday to break ground on the new Nursing and Population Health Building at TRU.

The premier was joined by TRU officials and Advanced Education, Skills and Training Minister Melanie Mark as they celebrated the beginning of construction for the $37.2 million building.

The province in chipping in $8 million for the project, which is expected to be open to students by January 2020.

Horgan says it is important that as the population ages the next generation of nurses and healers are prepared to take on that challenge.

“The best way to train people is to ensure that they’re using modern techniques and modern technologies and they’re in patient simulation labs so that they know what they’re doing when they leave this place and arrive at a healthcare facility, hopefully in the region, but certainly within British Columbia,” Horgan said.
