Busy days at YKA

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Airport will be full of holiday travellers today for one of its busiest days of the year.

“Yeah, it is a busy day. WestJet had extra flights on to accommodate the extra passengers,” says Manager of Airport Operations Jeff Scherban. “Generally speaking the 22nd and 23rd, depending on when school gets out, and then the 27th and 28th are the big drivers for traffic.”

Operationally, he notes things have been running smoothly so far.

“Yes, much smoother today. We did have some hiccups yesterday and then on Tuesday during the big snow storm when we had cancelled flights and delayed flights. So today we’re back to normal.”

And Scherban says passengers can do themselves a favour to ensure stress-free holiday travel.

“Definitely check our website for the arrivals and departure times just to make sure everything is on time. If they have any concerns, contact their carriers when they do get to the airport,” he says. “When you do get to the airport, check in at the gates and go through security early and have any packages and gifts unwrapped just in case security wants to take a look at them.”
