Trans Canada Highway reopened following closure due to fire

UPDATE: The Trans Canada Highway has reopened west of Salmon Arm.

Crews continue to tend to the wildfire near Kault Hill.

EARLIER:

SALMON ARM, B.C. — The Trans Canada Highway is closed in both directions ten kilometres west of Salmon Arm due to a forest fire.

Kamloops Fire Centre Information Officer Jody Lucius says the fire is burning near Kault Hill and is approximetly two hectares in size. 

“It’s burning in steep terrain near Highway One. We currently have seven personnel and air tankers and skimmers working on suppressing the fire.”

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Detours are available via Highway 97B, Highway 97A and Highway 97.

Drive B.C. says there’s no estimated time of reopening.
