Snow Angel program in need of volunteers

KAMLOOPS — The Snow Angel program is helping more than 100 Kamloops seniors this winter, the highest volume the program has ever seen.

The program enlists volunteers to shovel snow for people over the age of 65 who are unable to get the job done themselves.

With seniors already filling up the waiting list, applications are no longer being accepted. Volunteers, however, are still needed.

“It’s a manageable waiting list this year, so we still have room for more volunteers to come on board,” said volunteer coordinator, Lorraine Mallon. “However, we’ve stopped taking seniors on that waiting list just simply because we just don’t want seniors thinking that they’re going to get a match that potentially may not happen. However, if we get through that waiting list then our doors will open back up again.”

The greatest need for volunteers is on the north shore.

Anyone wanting to volunteer can find an application on the Oncore Seniors Society’s website.
