Report of imminent gang war false: Kamloops RCMP

KAMLOOPS — RCMP say they can’t corroborate a local media report that Kamloops is on the verge of a turf war between rival drug-dealing gangs.

Corporal Cheryl Bush was responding to a story printed in Kamloops This Week citing an unnamed justice official who claimed a bloody gang war is imminent.

Bush says investigators don’t have any evidence to support that theory.

“There is nothing arising from our intelligence, our investigations, or our community connections that support the increased threat level indicated in a recent local news article,” Bush told CFJC Today, adding, “while street level drug trade does exist, there is no indication of any escalating risk to the public.”

Bush notes there have been recent investigations that reveal an element of organized crime activity in Kamloops.

But she says that reinforces the work that RCMP do on a continual basis, even though suspects in such activity rarely cooperate with investigators.

The KTW story also reported a shooting took place at a location on McGill Road on February 25, something that has not been reported by RCMP.

Bush would only say no one was shot or shot at on McGill Road on that date, but wouldn’t comment further, saying the matter is before the courts.
