February 2, 1927 – November 19, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Makiko Yamamoto, 89, at Kamloops Hospice on November 19, 2016. She fought a courageous battle with stomach cancer and passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
She will be profoundly missed and remembered fondly as a loving, thoughtful and kind mother and grandmother by her daughters Hisami, Julie (Bill) Turley and June (Glen Hack); grandchildren Tim (Shannon) Harper, Frank, Bob and John Turley.
Makiko was preceded in death by her husband Hisakazu and her parents Enosuke and Natsu Teranishi, her older sister Nobue and younger brother Sazao.
Makiko was born in Japan on February 20, 1927. She married Hisakazu in 1949 and joined him and started a new life in Greenwood, B.C. in 1954 where she raised her family and made many life long friends. Makiko was homemaker and a cutter/seamstress by trade and made beautiful outfits for clients and her family. In 1990 Hisakazu and Makiko moved to Kamloops to be closer to daughter Julie and family.
In retirement Makiko enjoyed gardening, cards, reading, cooking, travelling, daily walks and watching sumo, Blue Jays games, curling and spending time with her family.
The family would like to thank Dr. Du Preez, the doctors and nurses at Royal Inland Hospital and the Staff at Kamloops Hospice for taking care of Makiko. Our thanks to her neighbours and friends for their kindness.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of koden or flowers please donate to the Kamloops Buddhist Church, 361 Poplar St., Kamloops V2B 4B9 or Kamloops Hospice Assn., 72 Whiteshield Cres. S, Kamloops V2E 2S9
