October 20, 1932 – January 21, 2023
Wilma was born in Minitonas, Manitoba and spent most of her preteen years in Swan River and Flin Flon. Her family moved to Enderby, BC in 1945. An adventure seeker at heart, she became a teacher and worked in the isolated coastal community, Namu BC. After working there for a few years, she moved to Wonowon, BC, on the Alaska Highway, and taught elementary school. This is where she met her husband, John. They lived next door to each other, but the romance did not start until Halloween when John, as a Halloween prank, tipped over Wilma’s out house. Mom promptly went trick or treating over to his place and demanded that he fix her outhouse.
John and Wilma married and had three children. They lived in many homes and towns in Northern BC, mostly around the Prince George area. In 1972 they decided to put down roots in the town of Fort St. James, BC. They lived there for 45 years. Mom enjoyed her church and her art. She provided the first art for the Carrier language dictionary and for some of the Carrier language work books.
Wilma is known for her artistic talents. She took a few art classes and started painting scenery. She sold most of her earlier paintings and won awards for some of them as well. Many walls in Fort St. James homes and throughout the province and elsewhere, display one or more of her paintings. She painted mostly landscapes but also painted many of the local logger’s logging trucks. She even painted an airplane for the owner.
Her artistic talent was not only painting. She was great at quilting as well. She not only made the quilts but would embroider on some of them as well. Her home was always beautiful and bright with things she had created and with how she decorated.
She is also the holder of the family memories. She loved to scrap book and has many completed books on her family history. They are beautiful and full of information that the family treasures.
Mom’s faith in God was most important in her life. She struggled with anxiety and depression. God was her source of peace when struggling and her guide to life. The bible was her main source of life guidance. Her journals are filled with expressions of the things she learned and was comforted by in the bible through the Holy Spirit. A favorite passage was Psalm 145.
She is predeceased by her parents, John and Helen Eadie, her brother’s Jack, Robert and Jim Eadie, her son in law, Gary (Quincy) Wiltse, her brother-in-law Earl Thompson and her nephew Jim Eadie Jr.
Family has always been important to Wilma. She will be missed by her husband of 62 years, John, her children, Joan, Sandra and Ken. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Nick, Hannah and Marti (Mitchell) Nuyens and great grandson, Brooks Nuyens. She will also be missed by her sisters Helen Thompson, Edna (Clinton) Day, brother Wally (Judy) Eadie, sister-in-law Gwen Eadie and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Condolences may be expressed to the family at Cypress Funeral & Cremation Services.
