November 14, 1943 — February 16, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Garry Johnson on February 16th, 2026 at the age of 82 years. Garry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Judy, sons Allan (Leigh-Ann) and Jeff (Sarah), and grandchildren Kate, Ella, Karys, Ryan and Westin. Garry is also sadly missed by his brother Don Johnson and family of Vancouver and sister Ella (Dale) Martin and family of Ontario.
Garry was born on November 14th, 1943 in Hamilton, Ontario and was the youngest son of Earl and Jean Johnson. It was in Ontario that he met Judy Bott. Shortly after they married in 1974, Judy and Garry moved to BC where they made Kamloops their home and became a family welcoming their boys, Al and Jeff. Garry began his working career in the trades as a sheet metal worker. He eventually established Johnson Excavating where he operated and maintained a successful business for many years in Kamloops. Garry was well respected in the industry. His experiences and advice that he would continue to pass on and share with his sons will be greatly missed.
Garry loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting with his family and close friends. He was a remarkable knifemaker and took an immense amount of pride in his work. His knives were truly one of a kind.
Garry was happiest when surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren who he was so proud of. As an enthusiast of all things sports, he shared his grandchildren’s love of soccer and hockey and was their biggest fan.
Please join us in celebrating Garry’s life on Saturday, March 7th, 2026 from 2pm – 5pm at the Heritage House located at 100 Lorne St, Kamloops, BC.
