William Bruce English

Posted May 28, 2025 | 10:58 AM

July 10, 1938 – May 23, 2025

William Bruce English, affectionately known as Bill to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, in Kamloops, British Columbia, at the age of 83.

Born on May 29, 1941, in Williams Lake, B.C. to Lloyd and Leta English, he is predeceased by his parents and oldest brother Read and survived by his youngest brother Joe (Bonnie). He leaves behind his loving wife, Beverley English and children Dawn Pfeifer (Michael Pfeifer) Wade English (Carolyn Jones) grandchildren Thomas, Donavon and Kristie Pfeifer, Laurel and Jared English and great grandchildren Brandon, Ryan and Emerson Pfeifer.

A man of great intellect and compassion, Bill pursued his passion for helping others by obtaining a Bachelor of Social Work at Notre Dame, followed by a Master’s degree at the University of Calgary. His educational background laid the foundation for a remarkable career that spanned over three decades in human resources, where he was not only respected for his professional expertise but also cherished for his warmth and mentorship.

Bill’s commitment to education continued beyond his own academic achievements, as he shared his knowledge and experience with students as a Professor at the College of New Caledonia.

Beyond his professional life, Bill had an enduring passion for all things mechanical. This passion was not just a hobby but a way of life that brought him tremendous joy and satisfaction. He lovingly restored several Jawa motorcycles, infusing new life into these classic machines with his skilled hands and keen eye for detail. His pride in craftsmanship was also evident in the British sports car he brought to life -a testament to his patience and mechanical prowess.

Bill’s love for mechanics extended to the skies as well. He was an avid builder and flyer of model airplanes, a hobby that allowed him to combine his technical skills with the thrill of flight. As the president of the Kamloops Model Airplane Society, he was a pillar of the community, inspiring fellow enthusiasts with his leadership and sharing the joy of this unique pastime.

Those who knew Bill understood that his hobbies were more than pastimes; they were expressions of his character—meticulous, patient, and always aiming for excellence. His ability to bring together like-minded individuals and foster a sense of camaraderie made him a beloved figure not only within his family but also in the various communities he was a part of.

Bill’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his legacy endures through the lives he touched, the students he guided, and the mechanical wonders he left behind. His memory will be cherished as a reminder of a life well-lived, full of purpose, passion, and the pursuit of knowledge.

We will miss our father, husband and friend to all who knew him.

Services will be held at Schoening’s Funeral Home on Saturday, June 7 at 10:00 a.m. A livestream will also be available.

You may offer a message of condolence at Schoening Funeral Service for the Barr family.
