November 30, 1935 – August 9, 2024
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Lovell Fleming, November 30, 1935 – August 9, 2024. He will always be remembered, as a devoted spouse, parent and friend.
Born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, he was raised by his grandmother, Agnes Fleming.
In 1943, they made the move to Crawford Bay, B.C. and eventually settled in Grinrod.
Wayne worked in forestry… His first job was fighting a fire in Beaton B.C. in 1953. He worked at the Bralorne Mine, for a short time as well as the Salmon Arm and Taft Lumber Co.
He was a timekeeper, on the Blue Lead Creek fire, up East Arm of Quesnel Lake. He also, did some time in Clinton, as a compassman. At age 22, he moved to Williams Lake and filled out an application for the Forestry, which started a 35 yr. career. In 1961, he took an exam for Assistant Ranger, passed and was on his way to making $320.00 a month.
On September 29, 1962, he married Marjorie Hockley from Horsefly. His work relocated them to Birch Island, Radium, Kelowna, Chase and Kamloops.
They bought property, and built a house in Chase, B.C. in 1973. Wayne loved curling, golfing, gardening, fishing with his son, and visiting the Pozzobons’ by the creek. In the fall, he could be found, volunteering his time at the Chase Curling Rink.
After his retirement in 1992, he continued to work as a private contractor for the forestry. In 2006, he chose to live a simple life, enjoying fishing, gardening and feeding the birds.
Predeceased by Grandmother Agnes Fleming, wife Marjorie Fleming.
He is survived by his son Lavern Fleming, daughter-in-law Floriane Fleming, her sons and grandchildren. Chris and Lindsay Skiffington, Lyla, Peri and Nova. Sean Skiffington, Steph, Owen, Emma, Trayce and Coltar. His sister-in-law Bev and Alan Forseth, nieces, nephews and families
